Native Plants were very Popular at the Mountain Garden Club Annual Plant Sale!

We got lucky with a beautiful sunny day yesterday for the annual plant sale at the North Conway Community Center. People lined up before the 9:30am start, and the newly designated native plants section was very popular.

This was my first year, and I dug up and potted quite a few native plants, but I was worried because our garden is young and I didn’t have that many to donate. There was no need to worry – other members brought dozens of them!

We consolidated the native plants into one section and added attractive signs and pictures.

We also added a Junior Gardener’s section. Kathy helped kids plant seeds to take home.

Kids also colored pictures of native plants and the insects which visit them.

Native plants have been hard to find here in the Mount Washington Valley. That’s changing – the last time we were at the local garden center in Conway, there were multiple tables full of natives and native plants were sprinkled among other perennials. I am thrilled!
